About TOEFL

The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. It evaluates how well you combine your reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills to perform academic tasks.

Created: 1964 by ETS (Educational Testing Service)
Internet-based test (iBT): Introduced in 2005
Accepted by: Over 11,000 universities and institutions in more than 150 countries, including all top 100 universities in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand

Test Structure

  • Reading: 54-72 minutes, 3-4 passages
  • Listening: 41-57 minutes, 3-4 lectures and 2-3 conversations
  • Speaking: 17 minutes, 4 tasks
  • Writing: 50 minutes, 2 tasks
